Over the last two years a group of Aboriginal families in Narromine have been creating early childhood resources suitable for Aboriginal families.
The group just launched the Bringing Out the Best in Your Baby: Developmental Calendar.
The calendar is full of images from the group and useful information about each of the stages in the first 12 months of a baby’s life. Part of the information includes what your baby might be doing at different stages with helpful tips and ideas to help their growth and development.
Project manager for communities for children Riki Price said the group deserves high praise for creating another beautiful and needed resource. “It is a testament to the quality of the calendar that while having an Aboriginal focus it provides information useful to any parent,” she said.
Jackie Hull a member of the group said the calendar is absolutely beautiful. “It’s so great to see our kids pictures in it and we were all so proud to have been a part of this,” she said.
Crystal Paine, Jane Kemp and Alicia Powell who are the three local Early Childhood service providers involved with the group would like to thank all involved for their fabulous work.
Last year, the Narromine Us Through Arts group produced the Lov’n Our Kids - a set of six posters with various parenting messages. The group are excited about their next resource a Children’s Music CD and Song Book. Incorporating traditional Wiradjuri language into children’s songs, the CD will encourage early childhood services and families to include the Aboriginal culture in to all children’s play.
These resources were created through the Federal governmt Communities for Children initiative.
