The Cancer Council NSW is hoping to raise over $250,000 from Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to help prevent, support and treat cancer in the western region.
The Narromine Community Health Centre will hold a morning tea today from 10am to 11am and Narromine Cottage Craft will hold a morning tea on Thursday May 22 from10am.
Eva Swane from Narromine Cottage Craft said they have been hosting Australia’s Biggest Morning teas for about eight years.
“Cancer is very prevalent in the area and it’s one way of showing our support for a very worthy cause,” she said.
“We will have our usual goodies for a wonderful morning tea. “People can come down with friends have a seat and a chat over a bite to eat.”
About 110 people attended the morning tea at Narromine Cottage Craft last year, raising more than $2500 for the Cancer Council NSW.
The morning tea will also see the raffle draw with the first prize quilt donated by Yvonne Fee.
Second and third prizes are goodies donated from the craft shop.
Cancer Council NSW western region community relations co-ordinator Kate Schofield said last year’s morning tea enabled The Cancer Council NSW to fund research, prevention and support services which included over 40 people who joined in a support group for cancer patients, families and carers over the phone in its telephone support group program in the western region.
“We always get enormous support from this community and this year we know they will get behind us again,” she said
Tickets for the raffle can be purchased at the Narromine Cottage Craft Shop until 12 midday on May 22.
The ladies from the Narromine Cottage Craft Shop will also be selling tickets outside the newsagent in Dandaloo Street on May 21.
“To register or make a donation please call 1300 65 65 85 or visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au and we’ll send you a host kit,” Ms Schofield said.
