Plans are well under way for the 2008 Miss Narromine Showgirl competition, with a formal show ball planned to celebrate the announcement of this year’s winner.
Sarah Browning and Sara McGilchrist are organising the event and the competition, and said the previous show ball was held seven years ago. “We thought it would be fun,” they said.
“It is a good way for the community to get involved and Narromine doesn’t have many formal events that are open to the whole community.
“We also want to make it more appealing for showgirls so they get some recognition for entering.
“We know how hard it is for someone to enter the competition, it is a big thing.”
The showgirl competition aims to find a young woman to act as an ambassador for rural NSW, with her role involving official and informal duties.
The contestants are judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, general knowledge, rural knowledge, presentation and speech.
“In previous years there has been a low entrant level, but so far this year we have four confirmed entrants,” Miss Browning said.
“However, if anyone is still interested in entering there is still time.
“You can win some great prizes and maybe go all the way to Sydney for the State finals.
“A special thanks to our main sponsor The Ag Centre as well as Classic Glamour, Steppin Out Shoes and Hair Dooz on Dandaloo who have also donated prizes.
“We would also like to thank Jodi Browning for all her years of commitment to the Miss Showgirl competition.”
The black tie event will be held on Augus 2 and will feature a three-course meal and entertainment. Tables are on sale until July 25 and can be booked at the Narromine Pharmacy for $40 a ticket, tables of 10.
