Turf club angered by ‘senseless’ vandalism

16/07/2008 12:33:00 PM
The Narromine Turf Club has once again succumbed to a random attack of vandalism.

Vandals smashed countless glass bottles over the grandstand at the turf club leaving thousands of pieces of broken glass on the stand and in the grass below.

The date or time of the attack is unknown as it is off-season.

Narromine Turf Club secretary Norm Lewis discovered the mess last week.

“It was a senseless attack of vandalism,” he said.

“The broken glass will take many hours to remove completely and the lawn will have to be thoroughly checked for glass as the next race meeting is in August.

This isn’t the first attack of vandalism on the grandstands at the turf club, disrespectful vandals also have graffitied obscene words in the toilets in the past, and now this.

Mr Lewis said the Narromine Turf Club took the attack very seriously.

“The Narromine police have been notified and they are investigating,” he said.

“This despicable behaviour will not be tolerated and anybody with any information regarding this attack is urged to contact the Narromine police.”
