Representative side includes local girls

Five Narromine girls played at the NSW Netball Stage Age Championships in Newcastle recently as part of the Dubbo Netball Association’s representative teams.

The championships are a gruelling event held over three days with eight or nine games played each day.

Kathryn Young and Alex Bastick are members of the U-14 team with Danielle Barber and Katie Daymond in the U-13 side. Emma Fillipi, a member of the U-13 Development Team, received a last-minute call into the team due to injury and did a great job in a side she had never played with before.

The girls have been training twice week in Dubbo since February as well as attending carnivals in Young, Orange and Parkes.

Excellent results at last year’s championships resulted in a move up to Division 2 of the championships this year.

Although the level of competition was noticeably tougher, our local girls held their own showing determination and endurance and making their opponents work hard for every point scored.

Mixed results were achieved over the weekend with many of the games being decided by just one point and a number of draws.
