Edwards claims club championship title

16/07/2008 12:53:00 PM
Congratulations to Johnny Edwards on winning the A grade singles final on Saturday.

Johnny now holds the title of Club Champion for the next 12 months after defeating Rick Bohm (31-26) in what was a high-quality match.

Rick was in front for the best part of the match, however, it was John who found enough momentum to carry him across the line and win the most prestigious event on the club’s calendar.

Both players are to be commended on reaching the final.

B grade singles commenced on Saturday with three matches being contested. Pat Randell defeated Tony Perino, Cliff Bullock defeated Harry Gammon, while Alex Sambrook and Geoff Anderson took part in a 41-end thriller with Alex staging a massive comeback to win 31-30.

Sunday morning saw four games with Brian Bulley defeating Bruce Maher, Luke Hutchison defeating Phil Harding and Pat Randell beating Mark Collins while Barry Riley defeated Mark Hilder. Cliff Bullock received a forfeit from Geoff Bohm.

B grade singles continue this Saturday with four games set down for play.

Brian Coupe v Arnold Gillespie (marker Mark Collins), Don Sullivan v Kevin Short (marker Bruce Maher), Alex Sambrook v Luke Hutchison (marker Phil Harding) and Barry Riley v Cliff Bullock (marker Geoff Bohm). Matches are scheduled for a 1.30pm start, all games are play or forfeit.

President’s Day is on this Sunday.

President Des is celebrating his fourth President’s Day with play commencing at 10am. Dress is creams and the cost is $10 per player.

Nominations are still being accepted and will close on Thursday at 8pm.

Vacancies are limited so get your team of four in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Social bowls last Thursday saw a brave 26 players front up and battle the cold conditions.

The winner’s prize went to D Sullivan, B Morton and C Harris while K Rider and J Daley were awarded the runner-up prize.

Sunday morning consisted of 20 players going around for the usual 12 ends.

Winners on the morning were R Cross, B Sharpe and J Daley while the runner-up prize went to R Ashdown and J Daley.
