The Memorial Hall in Trangie was treated to the sounds the six world-class voices of The Song Company on Sunday afternoon.
The Song Company is led by director Roland Peelman and is made up of highly-experienced singers Ruth Kilpatrick soprano, Anna Fraser soprano, Jenny Duck-Chong mezzo, Mark Donnelly baritone, Richard Black tenor, and Clive Birch bass.
Mr Peelman said the group was based in Sydney, and had been going for 24 years.
“This is our job,” he said.
“We travel all around the world and divide our year according to subscription concerts, education programs and special concerts.
“We’re basically the only professional vocal group in the country that does this work.”
The Song Company’s Waltzing Matilda program was based around many of Australia’s best-loved songs, in a chronological historical context, from Waltzing Matilda and The Ballad of Eureka from Australia’s humble beginnings, right through to Down Under and True Blue from the 1980s.
Mr Peelman said the entire group devised the Waltzing Matilda program.
“A lot of hard work goes into a program like this, finding all the songs and making it conducive and flow, and then they have to learn it,” he said.
The concert in Trangie was presented by TNT Arts Council, through Musica Viva Countrywide and with the support of Regional Arts NSW. Afternoon tea was provided by the Anglican Church.
Plans are underway for the return of The Song Company in late August/September to conduct school choral workshops in Warren and Trangie.
